Lives have been lost, homes destroyed, and entire communities displaced by floods and landslides across the island. In this moment, we feel a responsibility not only as content creators, but as Sri Lankans to show up, support, and document what is really happening on the ground.

Whislt we have report that both Kandy & Nuwara eliya can be accessed by road, many are still concerned as there are on going rescue missions in the hill country and many of the roads are being cleared of landslides.

  • Kandy → Ella – ❌ Suspended at the moment

Bus / On-Ground Travel Reports

Travellers have confirmed the following routes to be clear with smooth journeys:

  • Colombo → Ella
    via Panadura → Galle → Bandarawela
  • Sigiriya → Ella
    via Dambulla → Mahiyanganaya → Badulla → Bandarawela
  • Sigiriya → Polonnaruwa
    via Habarana → Minneriya → Polonnaruwa

National Parks Update

Most national parks are now open and operating normally. A few remain under monitoring but are expected to reopen soon.

This region has had the least impact from the floods and whilst some homes and villages did see flooding tourism activities and establishments remain largely unaffected and are running at full capacity, people are already surfing and basking in the sun as the weather has cleared up really well already

Sigiriya Region

(Dambulla, Sigiriya, Habarana)

Whilst there was significant flooding in the areas and some hotels have had floods at their properties the main tourist sites such as Sigiriya, Pidurangala, Dambulla Cave Temples, Hiriwaduna Village Experience are all active and can be easily accessed by road, Having just visited this region we can confirm that is better than even right now

Kandy Region

One of the worst affected areas with a number of landslides reported along many of the access roads, emergency response teams are working through the night to clear the roads and Kandy can now be accessed from Sigirya/Dambula or Katunayaka via the Kurunegala Highway.

Nuwara Eliya Region

Nuwara Eliya can now be accessed from the Kandy road however it is still not advised to travel into nuwara eliya other than for relief/aid distribution. will update soon once we hear from more folks on the ground

Jaffna Region

Our friends in Jaffna say that the damage is not too bad this time around and the city is functioning as normal. all tourist sites are accessible and Jaffna too can be accessed by road Colombo and other tourist zones

Anuradhapura

Large parts of anuradhapura town did experience flooding however the waters have receeded and it is now possible to travel to Anuradhapura through the meerigama Highway. We've just completed a tour of the ancient city and can confirm that Anuradhpura is safe to travel to and spend your days at.

Udawalawe

The Udawalwe region is back in action with all of the properties running at full capacity and the national park accessible for Safari's. The access roads to Udawalawe are also clear and once can easily visit this region from the South coast of Sri Lanka

Pasikuda

The Pasikuda Beach stretch which is where all the resorts are were not affected by the floods and the resorts are enjoying sunny days and calm seas
